Volunteers at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas (RMHC CTX) generously donate their time to care for families with sick children who rely on RMHC CTX’s services  The programs collectively provide stability and resources to ensure families stay together as their critically ill or injured children receive treatment in Central Texas -area hospitals. One particular volunteer, Elizabeth Williams, has been part of these crucial comforting activities for over 34 years!

As many volunteers for RMHC CTX tend to be, Elizabeth was first a client. Her daughter was hospitalized in the Dallas area and Elizabeth and her family, including her mother Mary Pendleton, stayed at RMHC Dallas while dealing with the medical crisis. After the family returned to Austin, Elizabeth wanted to give back and began donating her time in several capacities – serving as a board member (including as president), helping with special events, volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House itself, and most recently supporting the families who visit the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms that are located inside the hospitals. The Family Rooms offer a place for families to rest and regroup right at the hospital, while being moments away from their sick child.

“At the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, we rely on our volunteers to help families who need a quiet place to rest and regroup while their children are healing in the hospital,” says Paula Duke, hospital programs manager. “Elizabeth has been very involved at RMHC CTX and we are so appreciative of all her efforts to make our families comfortable. Our families not only appreciate her help but also the smile she always has on her face.”

Elizabeth’s mother Mary was also a long-time volunteer for RMHC Central Texas, graciously giving her time and faithfully bringing home-baked cakes every week for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. As a multi-generational volunteer, Elizabeth faithfully carries on her mother’s amazing legacy of loyalty, selflessness, positivity and simply going above and beyond for the families served.
