Austin’s Second-Oldest Rotary Honored By RecognizeGood

For nearly 70 years now, the Rotary Club of South Austin has been volunteering their time and fundraising for local charities – raising nearly $20,000 this past year alone with nearly 300 hours spent giving back.

As the second Rotary Club to be formed in Austin in 1958, The South Austin Rotary Club has been serving Central Texas through hands on volunteerism and fundraising efforts for several decades now. The Rotary Club has seven areas of focus- Peacebuilding/Conflict Prevention, Disease Prevention, Water/Sanitation/Hygiene, Maternal & Child Health, Education & Literacy, Economic Development, and creating a safe and healthy Environment for our community. They do this by working with local organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Community First! Village, and several local elementary schools to help students in need.

In 2024 alone, the Rotary Club of South Austin raised $14,000 for their Polio Plus fund, and donated $5,000 to several local elementary schools and organizations including Early Act First Knight and Mother Maryam Foundation. The Rotary Club and it’s members have core values of fellowship, integrity, diversity, service and leadership-they take these values with them everywhere that they serve. “Being a member of this club has provided me with so many opportunities to be in the right place at the right time and to see the impacts of not only the direct service to others in our community, but also the ripple effects of the connections made by the lives touched” says a longtime Rotary member. “This Club and the good that we do together touch so many, and I get to play a small part in that and have it make a huge rippling impact! That’s how we become the change we want to see.”

In addition to the funds that they raise, they also give back through hands on volunteer work wherever they are needed. In the 2024-2025 year alone, their members logged a combined total of 280 volunteer hours and delivered 350 meals to our neighbors in need. The Rotary Club of South Austin has been working tirelessly to make our community a better, cleaner and safer place to live for nearly 70 years now and has no plans of stopping anytime soon!

For nearly 20 years now, The University Masonic Charitable Foundation Lodge No. 1190 has been supporting Central Texas through fundraising and volunteer efforts with organizations focused on serving underprivileged children-raising $250,000 to date.

For several years, Peggy Wilson has been volunteering with Foundation Communities – implementing new programs for students, mentoring, tutoring and even recruiting her own colleagues to volunteer.

For several years, Tiffany Huerta has volunteered with B.I.G. Love Cancer Care dedicating hundreds of hours to help over 1,000 children and families who have a child with cancer cope with their diagnosis.
