Peggy Wilson has been a pillar at Foundation Communities (FC) since she sauntered into the Jordan Learning Center to feed families in the Children’s Home Initiative in December of 2021. She has not only helped tutor, mentor and plan activities for the students in their programs, but even created her own program that she now runs for their students! Peggy was asked by a student 2 years ago if they could go visit her at work since she visited them so often, so she turned that request into an annual summer event where Texas Mutual staff tour students through their nearby office, stopping to learn about various departments and ending with a speed networking event. Not only did Piggy create this beloved field trip for students each year, but she also started Foundation Communities Fan Club (FC²) which is comprised of Texas Mutual employees that volunteer in different capacities for Foundation Communities on an annual basis. In fact, Peggy now oversees all ongoing volunteerism for Texas Mutual’s support of Foundation Communities!
Foundation Communities is a local nonprofit founded in 1990 that provides affordable homes and free on-site support services for thousands of families, veterans, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Nearly 30 communities are currently open and operating throughout Central Texas. In addition to providing affordable housing, some services provided include afterschool care, summer camps, financial education programs, healthcare, and various education initiatives for students of all ages. In the last year alone, Foundation Communities had more than 2,000 volunteers and they estimate they will have nearly 10,000 residents by 2026.
Peggy is a central part of their day-to-day operations. “Peggy is a force for Foundation Communities,” says FC’s Corporate Engagement Manager Nikki Krueger. “When she signs on to lead, she LEADS!” Between managing volunteers, helping students with homework, and playing pinball – a game Peggy plays with the kids that involves standing in a hula hoop and trying to knock over someone’s pin with a bean bag – Peggy truly does it all!
