Ethics in Business & Community: Year One
Our 11th Annual Ethics in Business & Community Awards are coming up on May 2nd, 2013, and we wanted to take the weeks in between and share with you some of the amazing businesses, nonprofits, and individuals that we have had the honor of awarding over the last decade!
Our first annual ceremony was held in 2002, and awards were given in the following categories:
Business
Applied Materials – Applied Materials is the global leader in providing manufacturing solutions for the semiconductor, flat panel display and solar photovoltaic industries. Their technologies help make innovations like smartphones, flat screen TVs and solar panels more affordable and accessible around the world.
Athens Group – Athens Group provides independent, 3rd party technology assurance services for high-specification Oil & Gas drilling and production systems. Their mission is to help operators, drilling contractors and asset owners ensure safety. They also work to reduce non-productive time (NPT) and safeguard the environment over the entire asset lifecycle.
Hart InterCivic – Hart InterCivic is a leading national provider of proven election voting systems, management products and services – total solutions for state-, county- and city- level elections.
Nonprofit
Hospice Austin – At Hospice Austin the emphasis is on living each day to the fullest, in a comfortable place, free of pain and in the company of loved ones. Hospice Austin has provided compassionate end-of-life care to patients and their loved ones for more than 30 years. As Austin’s not-for-profit hospice, all their resources go back into caring for patients and their families.
Individual
Earl Maxwell – CEO of the St. David’s Foundation – St. David’s Foundation invests in a healthy community to better care for the underserved and uninsured. As a joint owner of St. David’s HealthCare, the Foundation achieves its goals by investing the proceeds from the hospitals back in the Central Texas community. From its beginning in 1924, St. David’s HealthCare has now grown to include six hospitals, four surgery centers, and four urgent care clinics reaching from Georgetown to Kyle. As Chief Executive Officer, Earl is responsible for the Foundation’s strategic direction. He coordinates the efforts of an extensive grants program, the operation of a mobile dental program, multiple boards, a scholarship program, and several community service groups.
