RecognizeGood joined the Military Order of the World Wars Captain Dillworth chapter at their meeting on May 4th to present the group with a certificate and a $1,000 donation for their organization. Special thanks to member Erik Stoeckle for helping coordinate this gathering!
The MOWW is an organization that aims to promote national security, patriotism, good citizenship and service to country. The group is comprised of officers of all U.S. federal uniformed services who have come together to not only educate and encourage future generations to be leaders, but also to help serve veterans through providing access to resources they may need.
The MOWW has an extensive educational program focused on youth. Each year more than 15,000 high school students attend either single, or multi-day Youth Leadership conferences throughout the country. These conferences address subjects including the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, Law and Order and more. Said one student who attended the conference, “I learned that I can choose the kind of future I will have by using my leadership skills.” Promoting patriotism and showing students leadership skills before they enter adulthood is one of many lessons that the conference covers and is a great opportunity for students to gain positive advice and direction.
In addition to the Youth Leadership Conference, MOWW is a wonderful resource for veterans and their families, especially for mental health services. They utilize 37 Local Mental Health Authorities (LMHA)/ Local Behavioral Health Authorities to hire or contract for Peer Service Coordinators to provide direct peer-to-peer services to engage veterans and family members who have experienced military trauma, are at risk of isolation from support services and don’t seek services through traditional channels.
MOWW hosts an international memorial service each Veteran’s Day at the Arlington National Cemetery at General Pershing’s gravesite to commemorate all of the allied participants in World War 1. In attendance are representatives from the allied nations who fought so hard for victory. This memorial aims to celebrate these heroes and recognize their bravery. The overall mission of MOWW nationwide is shown through their motto, “it is nobler to serve than to be served”, which Stoeckle says reminds him of something his father instilled in him growing up, “others before self.”
