Gordon Perez of El Amistad Club Honored as RecognizeGood Legend

AUSTIN, Tex. — RecognizeGood: The Foundation will present the 46th RecognizeGood® Legend award to Gordon Perez of El Amistad Club in a ceremony to take place at the Allen R. Baca Center (301 W Bagdad Ave #2, Round Rock TX 78664), beginning at 10:00 am on Sunday, March 29, 2015.  As part of the award presentation, El Amistad will receive a $1,000 pay-it-forward donation from RecognizeGood in Gordon’s name.

Gordon Perez has volunteered his time and talents for the betterment of our community since as early as 1977. He dedicated himself to many important roles and programs for nonprofit organizations like El Amistad Club and LifeSteps Council on Alcohol and Drugs. Over the past 12 years alone, Gordon coordinated 1200 scholarships for area students to the tune of over $1.2 million dollars.

El Amistad Club, based in Round Rock and founded in 1968, is a 100% volunteer civic organization. This group dedicates itself to recognizing veterans, promoting Hispanic cultural awareness, and providing college scholarships for area students. Gordon began volunteering with El Amistad in 1977, and has served a total of nine terms as the club’s president. In the mid-1980s, Gordon assumed the responsibilities of Scholarship Chairman, coordinating El Amistad’s massive scholarship program. In addition to his service with El Amistad, Gordon is also a cancer survivor. He served as Board President of LifeSteps Council on Alcohol and Drugs since 2005. He also was instrumental in the creation of the Neighborhood Conference Committee (NCC) in Round Rock, Taylor and Georgetown.

As a 2015 Legend, Gordon is now eligible to participate in RecognizeGood’s Say Thanks Austin campaign.

This annual event presents the Austin area with the opportunity to say “thank you” to a group of remarkable individuals. The participant with the most Thank You votes receives a pay-it-forward donation of $10,000 to the nonprofit of their choice.
