Joann and John Taunton have been volunteering with the SAFE Alliance since the fall of 2012, starting with one of its founding agencies, Austin Children’s Shelter. Over the years, they have generously given thousands of volunteer hours to the organization, contributing to various hands-on projects, from sorting donations to organizing storage spaces and performing administrative tasks. Joann’s remarkable organizational skills have made her well-known among the SAFE community, and with her unflappable husband John, they have transformed disorganized spaces into functional, practical areas, making the Family Shelter and Warehouse at Grove Campus more accessible and useful for SAFE clients and staff. Not only that, but they also purchase much-needed items, like blankets and pillows, to make new residents feel more comfortable.
Felicia M. Harris, Director of Basic Needs at SAFE, expressed her gratitude for this dynamic duo, saying, “…I’m extremely grateful for this dynamic duo who just feel like an extension of our basic needs program team.”
RecognizeGood, along with friends and supporters, gathered at SAFE to recognize Joann and John’s contribution, presenting them with a $1,000 pay-it-forward donation in their name to The SAFE Alliance.
We extend our special thanks to the staff at SAFE for hosting us and to everyone who came out to express their appreciation for Joann and John.
