Kerri Oswald Honored For Legendary Impact
Amit2024-02-07T13:18:43-06:00For over 14 years, Kerri Oswald has given her time and dedication to Austin’s senior community, helping sharpen their minds and personally putting in over 3,200 hours to ensure their safe transportation.
RecognizeGood honored Kerri Oswald with the 70th RecognizeGood® Legend award in a presentation at AGE of Central Texas (3710 Cedar Street, Austin, Texas 78705) beginning at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. During this event, RecognizeGood made a $1,000 pay-it-forward donation to Drive A Senior Southwest in Kerri’s name.
In 2003, Kerri Oswald began volunteering with AGE of Central Texas, helping adults with early memory loss through the Memory Connections program. In the 14 years since the program launched, Kerri has dedicated every Friday morning of her life to helping people experiencing symptoms of early-stage dementia with cognitively engaging activities ranging from discussions on current events to creative writing and music therapy. Through that volunteer connection, Kerri discovered the transportation frustrations of the seniors she worked with – simply getting from place to place for these seniors could be complicated, expensive and sometimes even impossible. Kerri dug into the problem and before long, became a founding director of Drive A Senior Southwest. Drive A Senior has five chapters serving Central Texas, and does just what the name implies – allows seniors who no longer drive to “age in place” and live independently by offering free rides for groceries, doctor’s appointments, or just about anything else.
As a 2017 Legend, Kerri is now eligible to participate in RecognizeGood’s Say Thanks Austin campaign, an annual event which presents Central Texas with a unique opportunity to say “thank you” to a group of remarkable individuals who contribute their time and talents to our community. The participant with the most Thank You votes receives a pay-it-forward donation of $10,000 to the nonprofit of their choice.
