Judith Craft

Judith Craft has cultivated plants and students’ minds for over 30 years with the Zilker Botanical Garden.

Judith Craft has volunteered at the Zilker Botanical Garden for over 30 years and has donated thousands of volunteer hours during that time. As a volunteer, Judith has spent her time getting dirty in the herb garden and the children’s gardens, leading school field trips, and serving on the boards of The Austin Herb Society and Zilker Botanical Garden Conservancy.

As a volunteer docent, Judith has given tours to hundreds of students over the years. In 2022 alone, over 4000 people took a tour of the Zilker Botanical Garden and Judith was right there to lead them. She has taken her knowledge of the garden and matched it to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) to teach preschool through high school students about the Zilker Botanical Garden. Judith’s skills as a docent are not limited to students though. As a master gardener, along with being considered the best volunteer at Zilker Botanical Garden, it’s no wonder that when new volunteers and staff join the team Judith is the one who introduces them to the garden with an extended educational tour.

Zilker Botanical Garden’s Education Director had so many amazing things to say about Judith, including, “Judith Craft represents the spirit of the garden. Her positive energy, vast knowledge, and jovial greetings fill the garden. Judith has volunteered as a docent, a horticulturist, a visitor greeter, and a board member. She is and has been our best volunteer.”
