2021 Ethics in Business Awards

It’s easy to talk about ethical leadership when times are easy. It’s another thing entirely when times are tough and the future is uncertain. As RecognizeGood continues in our mission to share the best examples of ethical business leadership, the business community joined together – virtually – on June 3rd, to celebrate organizations of all sizes that found innovative ways to put people over profits in the past year.

Host and RecognizeGood board chair Bobby Jenkins opened the evening by thanking the Austin business community. “Almost twenty years of recognizing good, of thanking you for making ETHICAL business practices REGULAR business practices,” Jenkins said. “Deciding to do the right thing, to treat people with respect and fairness, is incredibly important. You know it’s important, your customers and employees know it’s important… and today we celebrate these typically unsung decisions because the people who make those decisions are important. Austin is a better business community because of you.”

The first winner of the afternoon was Ryan Coaxum of Guaranty Bank & Trust. “Trust is always going to play a big part in my role, just because people’s financial futures are on my desk for everyone to see. As a steward of their money I just try to be the best I can be and put my best foot forward.” Small business awardee Bloom Communications founder Brianna McKinney chimed in, “Partnership for us means we’re walking alongside our clients in both good times and challenging times.”

Presenters included Andy Bell of Thinkery, Andrew Cooper of TyRex Group, JP Krueger of Five Stone Tax Advisors, Kent Radford of DISCO, and Jeremiah Bentley of Texas Mutual Insurance with special guest messages from Patrick and Kathy Terry of P. Terry’s, Nathan Araya of Concordia University Texas, Harold Ingersoll of Atchley & Associates, RecognizeGood board member and retired CEO of St. David’s Foundation Earl Maxwell, and Dr. Clay Johnston of Dell Medical School.
