Jill Rossi is Austin Public Library’s longest-serving volunteer

Jill Rossi is Austin Public Library’s longest-serving volunteer – with 20 years of dedication, there’s a good chance the thousands of books in your Austin Public Library branch have crossed paths with Jill.

Jill Rossi has been volunteering with the Austin Public Library for more than 20 years. She spends her time volunteering in the Customer Access department, helping with centralized shipping where she helps staff get library materials ready to be distributed to all the branches. This is no small task, since the Austin Public Library – in addition to the Central Library and the Austin History Center – has 20 library branches, a Recycled Reads bookstore, an upcycling facility, and a Mobile Library fleet that includes a Bookmobile, a Book Trike, and a Bike Trailer all of which share books and other items from the collection, information, and online resources with the community.

RecognizeGood, along with Jill’s family, enthusiastic library staffers, APL Director of Libraries Roosevelt Weeks, Assistant Library Director Hannah Terrell, and other supporters gathered to express gratitude to Jill and presented her with a $1,000 pay-it-forward donation in her name to Austin Public Library Friends Foundation. The event was a special way to thank Jill for her selfless service to the community. APL Volunteer Coordinator Paul Lopez, Jill’s nominator, says “she’s been serving at the library longer than some of her volunteer colleagues have been alive – that’s how valuable she is to us!”
